Peace Love Cure 2016

Tuesday, July 19,2016 was a beautiful summer day when 100 woman arrived at Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale, NY for the third annual Peace, Love, Cure (PLC) event to benefit the JDRF.  PLC is a morning of fitness with friends followed by lunch and a comedian. Attendees also hear about Type 1 Diabetes and the importance of the JDRF.

The committee members are all women with children with Type 1 Diabetes and are passionate about raising awareness and fundraising for T1D. Co-chairs Gail Sirota and Rochelle Waldman continue to make strides by working tirelessly to better the event year after year. The committee members live in Rye, Yonkers, New Rochelle, Scarsdale and Rye Brook, while the attendees are from all over Westchester County.

Participants started their morning with a light breakfast and then participated in an activity of their choice. The activities included Tennis, Yoga or Fit Walk. dsc_0309

The Sunningdale Country Club tennis staff did a fabulous job running a non-competitive round robin tennis event for close to 50 women. Yoga instructor Debbie Zimmerman taught an all level yoga class outdoors overlooking the sprawling golf course and Tracey Gerety lead a group in a fun filled Fitwalk. All of the activities were well received and enjoyed by the participants.

Later that morning, everyone came together for an enjoyable lunch while Peter Roche, Donor Relations Officer for JDRF, spoke about exciting research advances that are currently being funded.

The group was then entertained by comedian Robin Fox whose humor captured the vibe of the attendees.  She was an unexpected highlight for many participants.

The committee worked hard to put together over 20 overflowing raffle packages. Prizes  related to fitness, tennis, wine and dine and health and beauty.  These prizes were generously donated from vendors all over Westchester County.

PLC started out as a 3rd party event that has proven to be a great success! The committee works diligently over the year to find ways to add improvements to attract more people and as a result of their hard work, many of the attendees have returned year after year. JDRF is excited for word to spread about this fun event and confident that it will continue to grow.
